DramFest Sessions 2018

 

We are absolutely blown away at your enthusiasm for the DramFest Sessions this year, and unfortunately that means the majority of sessions are now fully booked. More smaller tasting sessions will be available on Wednesday the 31st of January at 1pm.

 

These unique, intimate masterclass tastings are hosted by some of our visiting experts who will share with you some of the most exclusive whiskies and rums we have ever had on offer at DramFest.
These tastings are an opportunity to learn from some of the world's foremost experts in their field, and the focus for 2018 is on offering each session three exclusively selected whiskies or rums that will not be available anywhere else at DramFest - these will truly be very special tastings.

We are very excited to share this lineup with you, and based on previous years there has been an overwhelming demand for these sessions. We do apologise if you are unable to get a ticket to the session of your choice, but we there will be further announcements to come in the new year.

THE SATURDAY SESSIONS:

SESSION A:
The Top Shelf with Dave Broom & Charles Maclean (Scotland)
1:30pm    $130

The Top Shelf returns to DramFest for 2018, and this year we are priviledged to have this special session hosted by two of the world's foremost experts and authors on Scotch whisky, Charles Maclean and Dave Broom.

Between them, they have over 40 years of experience writing, studying and educating about whisky, they will guide you through a tasting of some of the rarest bottles of liquid history available in the country, specially selected for this tasting from the archive's of Whisky Galore.

This tasting will run slightly longer than the other sessions, lasting for one hour.

SESSION B:
Dr. Bill Lumsden - The Glenmorangie distillery (Scotland)
2:00pm    $45

One of Scotch whiskies most influential and innovative master blenders, Dr. Bill Lumsden is the nose behind two of Scotland's greatest distillery's, Ardbeg and Glenmorangie.

Dr. Bill Lumsden is known for his pioneering work with wood finishes, and has been the creative force behind Glenmorangie and he has chosen three special whiskies to share you with you at his session.

SESSION C:
Diplomatico Rum with Nelson Hernandez
, Master Blender (Venezuela)
3:15pm    $38

We would like to welcome Nelson Hernandez, for his first visit to New Zealand, traveling all the way from Venezuela, the home of Diplomatico Rum.

Nelson is Diplomatico's newly appointed Master Distiller, with over 30 years of experience in the industry, and his session will focus on some new and exciting rums.

SESSION D:
The Springbank distillery with Ranald Watson (Scotland)
3:30pm    $44

We are delighted to welcome back Ranald Watson from the Springbank distillery of Campbeltown. Springbank produces one of the most distinctive whiskies in Scotland, made by hand with the most time-honoured methods. A fiercely independent and family owned distillery since its founding in 1828, they remain one of the most traditional distilleries in Scotland.

For his tasting, Ranald has selected three exceptional samples just for this tasting, drawn directly from the cask from their three spirit styles: Hazelburn, Springbank and Longrow.

SESSION E:

SESSION F:
Cameron McGeachy from Wm. Cadenhead (Scotland)
2:00pm    $56

Celebrating it's 175th anniversary this year, Wm. Cadenhead is Scotland's oldest independent bottlers.

Proudly presented by Cameron McGeachy who joins us from the home of Cadenhead in Campbeltown, this tasting will explore some of the rarest releases from the company, selected from three of Scotland's closed distilleries.

SESSION G:
Ian McWilliam (KQ) from the Glenfarclas Distillery (Scotland)
3:15pm    $50

Ian McWilliam, recently appointed a Keeper of the Quaich for his services to Scotch whisky, joins us from the Glenfarclas distillery in Speyside.

The Glenfarclas distillery has been owned by the Grant family for six generations, and it is this spirit of family ownership and independence that has enabled them to remain one of Scotland's most iconic distilleries.

Ian's Session will span three decades of the famous Family Cask bottlings.

SESSION H:
Stewart Laing from Hunter Laing & Co. (Scotland)
3:30pm    $50

Continuing the heritage of independent bottling and blending that was established in 1948 by his father, Stewart Laing and his children are now also soon to be distillery owners, completing Ardnahoe on Islay in 2018.

Stewart returns to New Zealand to share some of his famous single cask releases from the Old Malt Cask, Old & Rare range and more.
